Young & Young Firm History

Young & Young Attorneys at Law was started in 1915 by Abram H. Young, grandfather of J. D. Young, Jr. and Susan Young Nicholas. He was succeeded in practice by their father, J. David Young, from 1955 until his retirement in 1994.

Abram H. Young

Abram H. Young (years active: 1915-1955)

Abram H. Young. A native of Manheim, Pa., Abram H. Young graduated in 1902 from Manheim High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Albright College in 1908 and Bachelor of Law degree from Harvard Law School in 1915. During most of his law career he maintained his office and residence in Manheim, Pa.

During World War II he served as a legal adviser to area registrants and for more than four years was a Workmen's Compensation Referee.

Attorney Young was a Trustee of Albright College and of the Danner Home in Manheim. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 587, F. & A. and a member of the Manheim Rotary Club. Mr. Young joined the Lancaster Bar Association in 1919 and continued as a member until his death in 1962.

J. David Young

J. David Young (years active: 1954-1994)

J. David Young. Born and raised in Manheim, Pa., J. David Young was the son of the late Abram H. Young and Blanche M. Young. He graduated from Manheim Central High School in 1943 and at age 19 from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., in 1946. He graduated from Dickinson School of Law in 1955.

Between college and law school he served two years in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Following his graduation from law school his father was his preceptor; Dave then joined his father in practice. He was a member of the Lancaster Bar Association and the American Bar Association until his death in 2009.

He was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim, where he served as Deacon and Elder. He served as trustee and member of the Board of Managers of the Danner Home of Manheim, the Manheim Central School Board and the Manheim Central Student Loan Fund Association. He was a charter member of the Manheim Historical Society and a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge Number 587.
